In 2006, the German automaker Audi AG first introduced the Audi R8. With a longitudinally mounted mid-engine and permanent all-wheel drive system, the Audi R8 became famous and prevailed in the market.
Quattro GmbH, Audi AG's high performance private subsidiary company was in charge of the design, development and manufacture of the Audi R8 sports cars.
The Audi R8 uses the Audi Space Frame to develop its fundamental construction and adopted the space frame principles to build its aluminum monocoque.
At the International Geneva Motor Show and Frankfurt International Motor Show in 2003, the Audi R8 was presented to customers with the Audi Le Mans Quattro concept. Two years later, a new road car would share the same name as the Audi R8 race car, hoping that it would also achieve great success.
On September 30th 2006, the Audi R8 road car was formally introduced to the public at the Paris Auto Show. It was once described as "the best handling road car today" by Jacky Ickx, a 6-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner. In the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and British Super-bike Championship races, the Audi R8 is designated as the safety car.

A brand new car is expected to be promoted to the market in 2014, with the highest output version of Audi's new 4.0 liter V8 twin-turbocharged engine, which is previewed as a de-tuned version in the 2012 Audi S8- with 518 hp (386 kW) on tap.
The Audi R8 is expected to produce about 600 hp but suffer a weight loss of approximately 200 lb (91 kg) at the same time. The new Audi R8 is thought to be highly competitive with the new Porsche 991 twin turbo model and will likely perform significantly better than the current R8 GT with a 0-60 mph time in 3.2 seconds and a quarter mile in less than 11 seconds.
